Good morning and welcome to Orange You Glad It’s Thursday video series.

My name is Patti with Power Word Postcards. And today I want to talk to you about my mom. Unfortunately, she passed away a few years back due to breast cancer. But before she left, she was an avid quilter. And we have in our house a whole bunch of quilts that are on the walls and on the beds thanks to my mom.

Now I am kind of a spiritual person and I was talking to my mom before she passed away. And I said, mom, I need to have some signs from heaven that you’re with me because my mom and I were really close. And so I said, because you like to quilt and because you are a sewer, why don’t you send me messages of buttons? Well, my mom didn’t quite get what I was talking about. And I don’t know if you can see it, but she started sewing buttons on all the quilts that were hanging on my walls. So there’s a button and there’s a button. And here is my amazing button box. It’s even shaped like a button and looks like a button. And on the inside, oh, I don’t know, a million buttons of all different shapes and sizes and colors. We have big ginormous ones and itty bitty tiny ones and we have square ones and just lots and lots of buttons.

So the button is my symbol that I like to look for my mom. Well, you all, mother’s day is coming up in 10 days and power word postcards have this cute little mother’s day card. My challenge for you is to order a six-pack, order a 10-pack and give them to people that you know are mothers. Maybe your friends, maybe your relatives, maybe your sister-in-law is a mother. Maybe… Just get a 10 pack and order a 10 pack, sign them, fill them out, sign them in your name and drop them in the mail and then you will be a day maker. On May 8th, on mother’s day when they go to their mailbox, actually on Saturday, May 7th, and they go to their mailbox and there’s a mother’s day card. How amazing that will be to honor the women in your life, the mothers in your life, in your realm with a mother’s day card. Hello, everybody.

This is Patti with Power Word Postcards and Orange You Glad It’s Thursday video series. Today, I want to talk to you about using the whole box of crayons. The whole box of crayons. Sometimes, I’m even guilty of this, I do look at things as white or black, black or white, and then not even looking at the gray areas in between. So sometimes I do have to admit that I am kind of stuck in the black or white mode. When that happens, I need to stop and breathe and just visualize the whole box of crayons. Now, this is my ratty box of crayons that I use almost daily. The lid is all broken off and some of the crayons are broken, but this is the whole box of crayons. It’s kind of opening differently, but all of the colors are in there and it’s a brand new box of crayons.

My message for you today is to use the whole box of crayons.

There is a wide variety out there for you. It doesn’t have to be this way, or this way, or maybe something in the middle. You have a whole rainbow of colors, a whole range of motion that is right at your fingertips and ready for you to use and to move forward. Use them as tools. Use them as strategies. Use them as dreams and goals. You have the whole box of crayons.

I would love it if you’d take your Power Word Postcard journal and turn to the next blank page and get your fresh new box of crayons and start coloring. What can you color? Channel your inner kindy-gardener, and just start coloring your favorite thing to color. Is it a house? Is it flowers? Is it trees? Is it a rainbow? Is it a unicorn? Is it a dog, a bear, or a tree? Just get your box of crayons, use as many colors as you can, and fill up your little page on your journal with something to remind you that the whole box of crayons is available to you. It’s Patti with Power word Postcards, and welcome to Orange You Glad It’s Thursday video series. I want to share with you a new product that I have today. It’s called Pass Along Cards, and they come in a set of 24, and they have two-word affirmations on them, like “Enjoy today,” “Celebrate you,” “Take action,” “You decide.” Anyway, it goes through all 24 cards with two-word affirmations, two-word mantras on them.

Now, these little cards are called Pass Along Cards for that very reason. I have told you that I am a day maker, and you can be a day maker, too, very easily by using these little Pass Along Cards. You can slip it in with your receipt at the Costco checker when they check your receipt. And then the Costco checker gets a little card that says, “Dream Big,” and you’ll get a smile in return. Or if you’re standing in line at the grocery store, you can give it to the person that’s behind you, even in front of you, and even the cashier. Pass these along.

You can give them to strangers on the street.

Sometimes, I like to paperclip money to the back of them and then hand them out to homeless people that are panhandling. It just brightens my day to brighten other people’s day. Being a day maker in this world in this day and age is so very important. And you can have the tools to be a day maker, too.

Put a stamp on a card and mail it to yourself, mail it to your friends, and mail it to your family because they are worth a stamp, too. Be a day maker. Pass out Pass Along Cards. So today, I want to talk to you about asking for help or doing it yourself, and I would love to find out what do you prefer. Do you prefer to ask for help or do it yourself? Please share in the comments below, because I really do like the interaction with this email and it inspires me and motivates me to hear your responses as I inspire and motivate and support you.

So I’m channeling my inner kindergarten teacher today, and I want to share with you the story about the little red hen. So the little red hen is an animal that lives on the farm with a duck and a cat and a dog, and she finds some wheat seeds and she wants to plant the wheat. So she goes to the dog and she says, “Will you help me?”

“Not I,” says the dog

And then she goes to the cat, “Will you help me?

“Not I,” says the cat.

And then she calls to the duck, “Will you help me?”

“Not I,” said the duck.

And so the little red hen says, “I’ll do it myself.” And then she waters the seeds and she watches this and she tends to the garden and she needs a little bit of help doing that. So she goes to the dog and says, “Will you help me?”

“Not I,” said the dog.

And she goes to the cat, “Will you help me?”

“Not I,” said the cat.

And she goes to the duck, “Will you please help me?”

“Not I,” said the duck.

So the little red hen says, “I’ll do it myself.” And then she needed to gather the wheat and take it to the mill, but she does need a little help. So she wants again ask the dog, “Will you help me?”

And the dog says, “Not I.”

And the cat says, “Not I.”

And the duck says, “Not I.”

And so then she takes the wheat to the mill all by herself. She brings home the flour and she makes the bread and she asked one more time. “Dog, will you help me?”

“Not I.”

“Cat, will you help me?”

“Not I.”

“Duck, will you help me?”

“Not I.”

So the little red hen does it herself. And at the end of the story, she has a nice, beautiful loaf of bread that she baked from seed. And so she says, “Who will help me eat the bread?”

And the dog perks up as yours and says, “I will.”

And the cat says,” Meow, I will.”

And the duck says, “Quack, quack, quack, I will.”

And the little red hen says, “Nope, I’ll do it myself.”

So I’m sharing you that story because I’m just in an interesting place right now. As an adult, as a mom, as an entrepreneur, as a networker, I often still struggle with the fact to ask for help or to do it myself. And I’ve done it by myself for so long that it’s really, really challenging for me to ask for help. And I know I’ve shared on Orange You Glad It’s Thursday about this little predicament that I’m having before. And fortunately, I have amazing, first of all, I have an amazing husband, Larry, who asks me almost daily or he reminds me almost daily. “Patti, you don’t have to do it by yourself. You don’t have to do it by yourself.” And I really need to hear those words. I don’t have to do it by myself.

I also am involved in networking groups and I was reminded this week by a fellow networker, is the reason that I joined networking groups is to get support and to share ideas and to motivate myself to keep moving forward and keep being the best that I can. So I can do it myself if I choose to, but I really am really working on asking for help.

The first column is, “Things that I like to do by myself,” and make a list of things that you like to do by yourself. And in the second column, say, “Things that I need to ask for help,” and write those things. And look at that and really have some integrity and some personal growth about your two lists. Do you always do things by yourself and you never ask for help or do you ask for help too much and don’t do things by yourself?

If you have an idea, make it a great idea and go for it! If you think you can do something or if you think you can’t do something, you are exactly right. So if you have an idea and you think you can do it, then go for it. You don’t have to worry about how. I will give you some advice on how to make it happen. 

Start with the end in sight.

Where do you want to be in ten years? Write out your big audacious scary goals. Goals that sound so scary, they can’t possibly happen or come true. Start with the end in mind and really go for it. Ten-year goals, three-year goals, this year goal and then make it happen!

When you start on a trip you have a map, a plan, and directions. The same is true about starting a business.

Get crystal clear with your goals. Not only do you need to start with the end in sight with where you want to be in ten years, but you must also include who you want to work with. Who are the people that are the best fit for your product and service? How are you going to reach those perfect customers?  What employees do you need to support you and make your company a rock star team? Write all of these down in your plan. This is your road map for your journey. Also, identify your superpower. What makes you stand out from your competition?

Now create systems that work for you.

So this week while I was doing my grocery shopping I ran across these two little six inch pennants.  One said “YASSSSSS” the other one said “Let’s Do This.”  I immediately plopped them in my cart like they jumped in the cart all by themselves.   Yasssss I need to be my own cheerleader!  Yassssss I need to be reminded of Let’s Do This.  Such simple words and yet so awesome to be my own cheerleader.  Just saying these words I had a new perspective and a bounce in my step as I continued my shopping throughout the rest of my shopping.

Being my own cheerleader means I tell myself things like “if you think you can or you think you can’t you’re right”  I lift myself up.  I have positive thoughts.  I don’t let the “stinking thinking” get in my way.  I am the only one who can change my attitude.  I am the only one indeed.

Be your own cheerleader.  Today give yourself permission to pump yourself up.  Get excited about something. Be silly, have fun, and smile.
